8. This is your reward when you get away from the crowds and explore beyond the usual path, at Oregon

This stunningly serene creek stopped us in our tracks on a recent trip to Portland, Oregon. We'd driven out to Multnomah Falls, just east of the city, and walked the paved trails to the observation platforms there before deciding to push beyond the crowds and head deeper into the woods. I'm so glad we did as the trail featured a number of beautiful sights, this tumbling section of Wahkeena Creek among them. Also, while the green color pops in this picture, not far from this scene was a bare swath of burned forest still recovering from a wildfire that swept through the area several years prior, a reminder of the power and long-lasting impacts of forest fires

Although these idyllic sands aren’t known for their on-the-sand bars, palm trees or tropical temperatures they offer a Nordic seaside experience that’ll challenge what it means to take a beach vacation.
